Sponsor a resident
Some of the cats that come to us are too old or cantankerous (sometimes both!) for us to be able to home and these have the honour of becoming ‘resident’ cats
There are few homes available for old, sick or downright cantankerous cats!
When such cats come into the group they remain as resident cats with fosterers or are homed in a ‘hospice’ situation. The group pay for their medication and upkeep and this is becoming one of our biggest expenses. We are currently supporting 10 such cats.
Minnie came to the group when her owner died in March 2010. Minnie was about about 15 years old when she came to us.
At first Minnie did not like being with other cats but now she no longer minds then even tolerating an 18week old kitten who races about everywhere. She is very affectionate and will often come to be fussed and has found the human bed.
She has recently had a bad cold and is now getting over it.

Sooty is a beautiful black boy of 15yrs at Time of arrival in August 2009.
Very quiet, his friend/carer of the 15yrs had died following a long period in hospital.
Her american relatives had thought of taking him back but felt he would be too traumatised.
They had tried to get him in everywhere but as usual everywhere was full.
They regretably made an appointment at the vets for PTS, but made it for the day before they went back to the US ,just incase….
They tried Cov. cats again, and they found a place with a long term fosterer.
He has been with the fosterer for over a year now and despite a small stroke ,which means his head tilts slightly to one side, he has settled and become a prominant part of the family.
He always had fresh coley on a friday, and so this practice continues, with fresh chicken on other occasions.
He waits for this quietly but determined and eats it with relish, well he doesen’t have it with relish exactly but you get my meaning.
He has a new chance at life thanks to Cov Cats. He goes out, spends time in his garden, comes back, eats and goes upstairs to his bed where he sleeps for hours on end.
Just a nice elderly man who knows his own mind.

Fluffy is a black and white, (18yrs on arrival in August 2009) 19+1/2 male. Short haired!
His tale is a sad one.
Angie recieved a call from a woman one satarday to say that she needed to rehome her cat, because she was going abroad.
Angie explained that there was no room and asked if she had tried elsewhere, the women said no. Angie then asked when she was going, only to be told that it was that day in the late afternoon.
A very exasperated Angie, by then, told her to ring around and recontact her if no luck but gave no assurances.
Meanwhile, she rang the long term fosterer (LTF) to see if any room.
At that age, he would be going nowhere else and so it was decided that if she rang back Angie would fetch him.
Ofcourse, Angie ended up fetching him from a very tearful lady.
When she arrived, the woman was sitting on a packing case in an empty house, with Fluffy in a basket on her knee.
So this is how the stoic little man ended up in the LTFs hall with in his basket with his bed, tray and food bowl.
For a few days he was “knocked sideways” not litterally. He had never lived with another cat and he had lost his friend (if you can her that, sorry!).
Then he started coping with this by being aggressive, he wasn’t one to back away.
This was good as the other LTF were used to this with newbies and tended to ignore that behaviour. It took a few weeks but he has turned into a charming chap, he sits on the back of the sofa by the radiator with the others and loves fuss and attention, which he gets alot of. He has a passion for chicken or coley, and reluctantly eats whiskers in the evening (if nothing else is going).
His character is amazing, he should be called the Major but at 18yrs we kept his own name, afterall, sometimes that is all they have left.

Max is a relatively young cat that came into the group as a stray in Jan 2007. He proved to have an aggressive streak and would, at times, lash out at humans and cats alike. As this made homing him difficult, we agreed to sponsor him as a resident where his tantrums will be ignored.
